SON OF YOUMZAIN A DECISIVE WINNER

Youmzain

MY LENNY became the latest winner by YOUMZAIN when taking the Prix d’Houlley over nine and a half furlongs at Deauville.

Racing in the colours of owner/breeder Robert Bonaventure, the four-year-old made virtually all the running under Sophie Tison. Several rivals loomed dangerously on the turn for home, from which My Lenny quickened and was pushed out in the straight, winning by two and a half lengths on the line.

There is surely more to come from the winner, who is trained by Ludovic Rovisse in Chantilly, and was having his first run since being gelded. My Lenny is the second winner bred out of Clochette De Sou, herself a five-time winner.

A front running ride proved just the trick for JEN’S BOY (Malinas), as he gained his maiden win in the Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at Uttoxeter on July 26th.

Second over two miles and seven furlongs last time out, he was sent off favourite under Nico de Boinville, who rode him to lead in the colours of Middleham Park Racing. Ridden approaching the final flight, he stayed on gamely to beat Court Affairs by a head, the pair finishing 33 lengths clear of the rest of the field.

Denied his bumper win by a nostril last season, Jen’s Boy becomes the fourth winner bred by WB McTaggart out of Friendly Craic. A £65,000 store purchase by his owners with Highflyer Bloodstock, he is a half-brother to Grade 2 winners Royal Regatta and Three Musketeers.

FLYING RISK led home a 1-2 for SHIROCCO in the two mile fillies’ bumper at Limerick on July 25th.

The Gordon Elliott-trained newcomer tracked the leaders for much of the way and was travelling well when asserting over a furlong from home. Pushed out in the closing stages by Jamie Codd, the bay held off a late run by Majestic Maid (Shirocco) to win by a neck, with the front pair finishing six lengths clear of the favourite in third.

Codd was full of praise for the winner, commenting after the race, “She’s a lovely filly and the Fogarty family are going to have a lot of fun with her. She’ll improve for that but ran as straight as a gun barrel, which was impressive for a four-year-old filly making her debut.”

Bred by Donal Fogarty and owned by John Fogarty, Flying Risk is the first foal out of her dam and comes from the family of Suny Bay.

The Joel Boisnard-trained WESSLY (Youmzain) made it two from two when taking the Prix Alain De Montillet at Les Sables.

Sunday’s Class 2 contest marked a step up in class and distance for the three-year-old, who raced towards the back of the field under Cecilia Poirier. The field quickened turning for home, with Wessly racing down the centre of the track to lead two furlongs out and ran on to win by two lengths.

Owned and bred by Fernand Krief, Wessly is out of the King’s Theatre mare Queen’s Ball, herself a half-sister to Grade 1 performer and producer Flawly.

ANNIEMATION (Acclamation) made his second start a winning one, when taking the seven furlong maiden at Musselburgh on July 23rd.

A respectable fifth on debut last month, the two-year-old was reunited with Jack Garritty, who rode him to track the leaders and produced a challenge two furlongs from home. Leading inside the final furlong, he ran on well to win by a length and three quarters, relegating the favourite to second.

Trained by Stella Barclay for Will Buckley, Anniemation was bred by Ballyphilip Stud out of a winning half-sister to dual Stakes winner Percolator.

CASABLANCA MIX (Shirocco) gained her first black-type success in impressive style when taking the Listed Betway Summer Plate at Market Rasen.

Returning from a two month absence, the Nicky Henderson-trained mare was sent off joint-favourite under Nico de Boinville. She chased the leaders for much of the way and improved to lead at the third last fence, charging home to extend her advantage to eight lengths on the line.

A delighted Nicky Henderson commented after the race, “Casablanca Mix was travelling very well turning in but you’re never home until you’re hosed here, and she was very good. She loves fast ground. This was always the plan and we’ve kept her for this.”

Previously twice placed at Listed level. Casablanca Mix was gaining her eighth career success for owner/breeder Evan Hanbury. She is one of four black-type horses out of her dam, a half-sister to Welsh National victor Raz De Maree.
