GALWAY FESTIVAL SUCCESS FOR SHIROCCO MARE
GALWAY FESTIVAL SUCCESS FOR SHIROCCO MARE
The progressive MAJESTIC MAID (Shirocco) gained a well-deserved victory when taking the two mile mares’ bumper at the Galway Festival.
The Michael Kennedy-trained four-year-old was last seen finishing a close second to Flying Risk (Shirocco) in a similar contest at Limerick under M O’Sullivan, who took the ride once again at Ballybrit. Chasing the leaders in the early stages, the bay improved into second at halfway and led soon after. Headed three furlongs from home, she battled back to lead inside the final furlong and stayed on well to win by a length and a quarter.
Trainer Michael Kennedy was full of praise for Conor Murphy homebred winner, commenting after the race, “She’s very tough and genuine, a handy enough filly who is good and strong. She has a bright future I think.”

The Roger Varian-trained DEAR POWER (Acclamation) made a fine impression when scoring on debut in a six furlong novice stakes at Chelmsford.
A 350,000gns yearling, the King Power Racing-owned colt faced seven rivals, including the favourite Jovial, a daughter of Dubawi out of a half-sister to Frankel. Dear Power chased the leaders under Jack Mitchell and was shaken up to lead inside the final furlong, running on well to win by two and a quarter lengths.
Dear Power was bred by Kildaragh Stud out of Debuetantin, a full-sister to Listed winner Desabina and German Guineas runner-up Denice.
Acclamation sired another winning newcomer later in the day when PERSUASION (Acclamation) won a competitive maiden at the Glorious Goodwood Festival. Trained by Charlie Hills, the two-year-old colt shares his purple silks with talented sprinter Garrus (Acclamation), the pair both owned by Mrs Susan Roy.
He raced in mid-division for much of the seven furlong contest, biding his time for a clear run approaching the two furlong pole and quickened away smartly to lead inside the final furlong, scoring by half a length.
Persuasion was bred by Norelands Bloodstock, who sold him as a foal for 155,000gns, while Pier House Stud enjoyed a profit when selling him as a yearling for 220,000gns.
The double marked an excellent run for Acclamation, with his daughter Rose Hip having defied a seven pound rise the previous evening; her third win from her last four starts.

Acclamation enjoyed the best of both world on evening, as he sired a winner at both the Galway and Goodwood festivals.
DIRTY RASCAL (Acclamation) was first to strike in the seven furlong handicap and for some time looked an unlikely winner, with no clear run until entering the final furlong. Making good headway, he got up close home to win by a neck under Tom Marquand.
The Richard Hannon-trained three-year-old was gaining his third win for owners Charlie Rosier and Mrs Julia Rosier. Bred by Rosetown Bloodstock, he was a 58,000gns yearling purchase by Peter and Ross Doyle.
Later that evening, UPGRADED (Acclamation) adopted different tactics to win the two mile handicap for the in-form Tony Martin team. Ridden to make all under Robbie Colgan, the John Breslin-owned mare was four lengths clear at halfway and was ridden from two furlongs out to defend her advantage. Staying on well under pressure, she held off the favourite Eight And Bob by two lengths and three quarters.
Upgraded was bred by Maurice Regan out of an unraced half-sister to Group 1 winning stayer Invermark and Group 2 winner Craigsteel.

The five-year-old tracked the leader closely and led from two furlongs out under Craig Nichol. Driven clear inside the final furlong, she ran on well to win by two and a quarter lengths.
Baby Bluesky runs in the colours of Mrs LM Whillans and was bred out of Lady Bluesky, who won ten races for connections.

DALKINGSTOWN (Malinas) quickly rewarded new connections when winning his first start under rules, a two mile bumper at Worcester on Tuesday.
The Peter Bowen-trained five-year-old was bought after winning two point-to-points for Philip Rowley and now races for owners Roddy Owen and Paul Fullagar. He was sent off favourite under Sean Bowen and raced towards the back of the field, quickening on the turn for home and was driven to lead approaching the final furlong. Ridden out in the closing stages, he held off Present Chief (Presenting) by the narrowest of margins, the pair racing nine lengths clear of the third.
Dalkingstown was bred by Miss SJ Turner and is a half-brother to Listed chase winner Tara Rose.
