SHIROCCO MARE SURGES CLEAR IN LISTED CHASE

CASABLANCA MIX (Shirocco) gained her first black-type success in impressive style when taking the Listed Betway Summer Plate at Market Rasen.
Returning from a two month absence, the Nicky Henderson-trained mare was sent off joint-favourite under Nico de Boinville. She chased the leaders for much of the way and improved to lead at the third last fence, charging home to extend her advantage to eight lengths on the line.
A delighted Nicky Henderson commented after the race, “Casablanca Mix was travelling very well turning in but you’re never home until you’re hosed here, and she was very good. She loves fast ground. This was always the plan and we’ve kept her for this.”
Previously twice placed at Listed level. Casablanca Mix was gaining her eighth career success for owner/breeder Evan Hanbury. She is one of four black-type horses out of her dam, a half-sister to Welsh National victor Raz De Maree.
