UNQUESTIONABLY A STAR…
So highly regarded was Unquestionable as a 2yo at Ballydoyle that he made his debut in stakes company in the Listed First Flier Stakes over 5f at the Curragh. By the end of that season he had backed up that reputation and more as a Gr.1 winner who was ranked as a leader of his generation.
Unquestionable signed off his 2yo campaign by taking the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita. Sent off favourite for the $1 million event, he showed an outstanding turn of foot under Ryan Moore to run down the leaders and win going away. It was a typically strong renewal in which seven individual stakes winners finished in behind, among them subsequent dual Gr.1 winner Carson’s Run.
Unquestionable was never out of the frame for Aidan O’Brien as a 2yo, with his placing in the First Flier Stakes followed by an impressive maiden success over 6f at the Curragh. From there, he was beaten just a short head by subsequent Gr.1 winner Bucanero Fuerte in the Gr.2 Railway Stakes, with the pair quickening well clear of the third.
Unquestionable continued to progress into the autumn. He was overcome only in the final 100 yards by Rosallion when second in the Gr.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp, run in course record time on good to soft ground, before travelling to California to win the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf back on quick ground.
Brilliant at two, Classic performer at three when fourth in the Gr.1 Irish 2,000 Guineas and also fourth in the Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes. Effective on differing grounds and over distances ranging from 5f to a mile, Unquestionable embodies all the attributes associated with his much-missed, leading sire Wootton Bassett. The sire line is already taking root if the 2025 season is any indication, when his sons supplied the Gr.1 winners Gezora and Woodshauna.
Unquestionable is supported by a family of the highest global class as a member of the famous Best In Show family via the Didina branch responsible for proven Gr.1 sires Bated Breath and Cityscape.
The Best In Show family is one of the most powerful in the Stud Book as the source of numerous Gr.1 winners, among them champions Almond Eye, El Gran Senor, Peeping Fawn and Rags To Riches. It is also responsible for the breed-shaping sire Redoute’s Choice, responsible for no fewer than 40 Gr.1 winners.
